Outpost officially launches London studio

3 October 2022

Outpost lands in London with a brand new studio near Covent Garden

We’re thrilled to announce that Outpost are expanding our global operations and increasing our headcount to over 720 with our fifth global studio launching in London.

The new studio will add 120 artist seats in London to complement our existing global team of over 600 people, alongside ongoing expansion of remote teams worldwide. The London studio will operate alongside our existing studios in Bournemouth (UK), Montreal, Los Angeles and Mumbai.

The new studio, located near Covent Garden, will offer in-person client service right in the heart of the capital. Rachel Matchett, UK Managing Director, said: “It’s going to make us even more accessible to work with as a team."

"With the opening of our London studio, we can bring our unique culture and values to London’s VFX community and offer an improved quality of service to our clients in the capital and beyond."

The launch will enable Outpost to continue on its growth trajectory with further investment in high-calibre artistic talent, culture and global cloud infrastructure. Duncan McWilliam, Founder & CEO of Outpost VFX, said: “Our unified cloud infrastructure is enabling us to scale dynamically across the globe and offer increased capacity for high-end film and episodic productions.

“We are increasingly seeing larger projects enter our facilities and we are encouraged by the visibility of a strong pipeline of work, reflecting our ambition to scale our offering to better support our clients and our people. With three screening rooms and a basement cinema we look forward to hosting clients at our new studio in London.”

Following a period of phased opening, our London studio will be able to deliver its full in-house capacity later in 2022. The new space will give UK artists the option of working in the capital, in the coastal town of Bournemouth or remotely, with hybrid options available.

Said Matchett: “Having the flexibility of being able to work wherever you want is huge, and so we’ve been careful to not revert to type and instead focused on providing options for our team. For us to be able to say, ‘do you want to work by the beach, in the city or at home?’ – I think that’s fantastic.”

Outpost VFX was amongst the nominees in both visual effects categories at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys for Foundation and The Man Who Fell to Earth. It has recently completed production on the upcoming Netflix features Slumberland and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
