Outpost Returns to Escape Studios for Student Mock Interviews

10 February 2022

Outpost’s Head of 2D, Giorgio Pitino, helps VFX students prepare for real-world job applications.

On Wednesday, our Head of 2D Giorgio Pitino visited Escape Studios at Pearson College London to help 2D students improve their showreels, gain confidence in the interview process and offer some CV tips.

Of the event, Giorgio says: "these mock interview sessions are a useful way to help shape these students’ introduction into the industry by giving them the experience of a job interview before they leave education, which is important. It allows them to improve and gives them an insight into what they could do differently before taking that step."

Giorgio interviewed 2 students, spending 30 minutes with each to review their CV and showreel, and giving them real-life interview experience by going through practice questions. Additionally, Giorgio gave advice to help each student strengthen their professional skills as an individual.

"The students were able to gain immediate advice and tips on their first steps of getting a job in the industry. Students invest a lot of time into studying all the effects and elements of their discipline but they must also be able to convey that they have the confidence to talk about their work, what they can bring to that studio, and what makes them unique. It also allows us in the industry to see the next generation of talent," Giorgio continues.

We asked Escape Studios why these mock interview sessions are so important for their students: "the CV and mock interviews aim to prepare students at Escape Studios for real job applications, in collaboration with recruitment specialists and hiring managers who share their expertise. Each student had a 30-minute, 1-2-1 slot with an employer where they got to practice mock interview questions and answers in a friendly and supportive environment for some mock interview practice online. The mock interview practice also gave the students immediate feedback on how to strengthen their communication skills and prepare responses to common mock interview questions. They also had the chance to gain some top tips on brushing up their CVs."

Thank you to Escape Studios for letting us be a part of these important student sessions, we look forward to attending again next year!
