Project Overview
We recently had the pleasure of working with Paramount Television on the TNT limited series, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness.
The sequel to The Alienist, based on Caleb Carr's best-selling series of novels, follows Dr Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) and John Moore (Luke Evans) as they navigate the dark – and often murderous – underworld of New York City at the turn of the 20th Century.
Managed internally by VFX Supervisor James Rustad and VFX Producer Tom Barber, the team at Outpost VFX Montreal delivered close to 150 visual effects shots spanning all eight episodes of the series. Our work on The Alienist: Angel of Darkness covered the whole gamut of VFX, including 3D environments, set extension, DMP, window comp and crowd replication.
A particular highlight included a sweeping extension of Central Park featuring 3D buildings and CG trees and foliage.
Additionally, in testament to the problem solving power of invisible VFX, we were tasked with replacing Dakota Fanning's dress and hat with CG versions due to a slight continuity error.
The Alienist: Angel of Darkness launched on TNT in July 2020.
