Project Overview
Project Power, the latest original film from Netflix, launched worldwide on the streaming platform on 14 August.
Led by VFX Supervisor James Rustad and VFX Producer Tom Barber, Outpost VFX Montreal delivered over 200 shots for the film.
"We joined the show late in production to help with a diverse award of shots including a regenerating CG plant, blood and gore in several fight scenes, healing effects and a CG truck," explains Tom Barber, Outpost VFX Producer on Project Power. "We also delivered a large number of contact lens fixes, laser-sight shots and screen inserts."
"We did a lot of look development for the wide range of work we delivered in both CG and comp, and as always the team showed how adaptable they were in quickly hitting the brief."
Starring Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dominque Fishback, Project Power asks: what would you risk for five minutes of pure power?
A mysterious pill has been circulating through New Orleans that bestows unpredictable powers on whoever takes it. When crime levels begin to get out of control in New Orleans, a local cop teams up with a teenage dealer and an ex soldier to take down the group responsible for creating the drug.
"The one-off shot of the CG plant being healed was fun to create, and the healing power shot on the deck of the ship is also looking great," continues Barber.
"Walking that fine line of making effects look magical enough to suit the narrative but still grounded in reality is always a hard brief but the team did a great job and our client was very happy with the final shots."
Project Power is out now on Netflix.
