Project Overview

Following our success in representing the psychedelic and disturbing world of epilepsy in Stone City Films' Electricity, we were approached by Sophie Robinson to help create a sense of the visual and cerebral distortions experienced by Lotje Sodderland after she suffered a stroke.

The film, which boasts Twin Peaks creator David Lynch as Executive Producer, was made available to watch on Netflix in 2016.

Our VFX team, led by Elena Estevez Santos, completed over 100 VFX shots for the documentary working with a range of footage, much of it handheld shots achieved on an iPhone.

Naturally, there were technical challenges that arose from working on relatively low-quality footage whilst delivering highly creative treatments. However, Elena and her team embraced the ‘reportage’ nature of the footage and constructed a stunning range of effects ranging from surreal beauty to dark imaginings.

Their sensitivity to the subject matter and the delicate touch required when using VFX to portray someone’s personal condition are a testament to Outpost’s ongoing mission to support the telling of incredible stories with visual effects.

In Lotje’s words: "I feel so grateful to have found Outpost, and for the almost wordless symbiosis among us all which conspired to create this sensational visual story".
