AI and ML tools dominated the agenda at the conference's 30th edition
Chief Technology Officer Tim Chauncey took to the stage alongside AWS to deliver a talk titled ‘Reimagining VFX: AI, Cloud and the Rise of Agentic Systems’.
During the presentation he took a deep dive into Outpost’s cloud infrastructure and how that has propelled the team’s efforts to integrate production-ready and proprietary AI tools into the studio’s pipeline.
He also treated the audience to exclusive insight into how agentic systems are already driving efficiency across the globe, with AWS at its core.
“[AI] changes the role of artists and production teams,” he told delegates. “They’re no longer forced to orchestrate every step manually. They become the creative directors and supervisors of these systems.”
Giorgio Pitino, Group Head of 2D, was also invited to speak at the conference in conjunction with Foundry.
In his talk, entitled ‘Nuke Essentials: From Comp Fundamentals to the Tools of the Future’, Pitino took his audience through the strong fundamentals required to be fully production ready as a compositor, including script do’s and don’ts and best practise approaches to techniques like CG integration.
He then went on to discuss the emerging tools that are helping compositors to work faster and smarter, including leading AI / ML tools that integrate with Nuke and each other to speed up previously time-intensive workflows, such as Rife and SegmentAnything.
He told delegates: “The work of a compositor starts well before opening Nuke and adding the first nodes. It starts with a good overview of the project at large before diving into the specifics of the type of work involved.”
FMX is Europe’s premier VFX and animation conference. Now in its 30th year, the 2026 conference explored ‘The Road Ahead’ as its theme, encompassing AI and its future impact on VFX and filmmaking as well as the wider market picture for the creative sector.
Other highlights this year included a sit down with visionary director Roland Emmerich to discuss Independence Day 30 years after it hit cinema screens, as well as behind-the-scenes insight into the VFX of Stranger Things, Project Hail Mary and Avatar: Fire and Ash.
