Emmys 2026: Outpost VFX Nominated for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for Foundation

13 July 2026

The third season of the sci-fi epic has been recognised by the TV academy

Outpost VFX is delighted to announce that the studio has been nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie for its work on season three of Skydance's acclaimed science fiction epic, Foundation.

The nomination recognises the outstanding visual effects work delivered by all vendors across the series, with Outpost VFX Supervisor Mathieu Assemat named on the nomination alongside the wider VFX team including Overall VFX Supervisor Chris MacLean.

Returning to Foundation for a third season, Outpost delivered more than 230 visual effects shots spanning complex digital character work, large-scale environment creation and some of the series' most technically challenging sequences to date. The project saw the team once again tasked with bringing the robot character Demerzel to life, while also developing a brand-new digital character, the Asterion, and creating a host of expansive sci-fi environments.

Among the season's standout achievements was the creation of Mycogen, a vast district on Trantor that required a series of fully CG establishing shots combining intricate architectural design with a unique visual language that blended the organic and the technological. The team also delivered the emotionally charged sequence in which Demerzel's robotic form is revealed and ultimately destroyed, a highly collaborative and iterative process that pushed both the technical and creative capabilities of the studio.

Season three represented Outpost's third consecutive collaboration on Foundation, continuing a creative partnership that has allowed the studio to play a key role in shaping some of the series' most memorable visual moments.

There were also nods for IT: Welcome to Derry and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, both of which also feature work from Outpost VFX.

Congratulations to Mathieu and everyone across the Outpost team whose creativity, dedication and craftsmanship helped make this recognition possible. Congratulations also, to all other nominees.
