Mental health concerns are rife throughout the visual effects industry. Campaigns in the UK and abroad are helping to raise awareness
In Canada, this year's area of focus was on emotions and expressing them effectively. With the tagline 'name it, don't numb it' and 'get real about how you feel' the 2021 Canadian Mental Health Association campaign put a strong emphasis on exercises around topics like toxic positivity and emotional regulation.
We've been sending out daily email communications to our Montreal crew focusing on a different theme each day to encourage engagement and open conversations about emotions. Our dedicated Teams group has been used to host regular pop quizzes on some of the topics under the spotlight for Mental Health Week, as well as virtual coffee breaks to encourage additional face-to-face content (albeit remotely).
For more information on the work done all year round by the Canadian Mental Health Association, and for exercises and factsheets related to this year's Mental Health Week campaign, you can visit their site through here.
In the UK the Mental Health Foundation's campaign for Mental Health Awareness Week has been focusing on the restorative power of being in nature.
At our Bournemouth studio we've been sharing daily resources and activities to encourage our people to get out in nature and enjoy the great outdoors (despite the reliably unreliable UK weather).
In addition to our Head of HR bringing in a box full of seeds and herbs for people to take home to grow, we created a treasure map that reveals some of our favourite outdoor spots around Bournemouth including the tropical gardens, coy pond and of course the pier.
If you want to get involved with the Mental Health Foundation and access their resources you'll find their website here.
Thanks to our sponsors for helping us host a pub quiz evening, and provide some incredible prizes for a raffle too!
